i use mine to record interviews over the phone & it's been really excellent. this is great when you want or need to record phone conversations. it produces much better quality recordings that i thought, and allows you to simply, inexpensively record your phone calls.
Didn't have any issues with recording phone calls, recordings were clear. It's a simple device that plugs into the mic jack of your recorder and the ear piece is between your ear and telephone headset. No need for fancy telephone recording gadgets - this works great with any small voice recorders.
It's a great alternative to Skype and so very convenient.I'd definitely recommend it. For those wondering how this ingenious little device works, the other side of the earpiece, the part that goes against the phone when you have it to your ear, is a microphone and picks up the sound from your phone receiver. I attached it to my Sony ICD-UX71 digital recorder, stuck the earpiece in my ear and then made a phone call. Either way, the microphone on this device is sensitive and works very well. The earpiece felt a little awkward at first, but I soon got used to it and it did not cause discomfort. Altough that could be a function of the phone equipment I was using as well (both from my end and the 2 people I called - both of them were talking to me from an iPhone3G). I mention the recorder make/model and the cell phone make/models as the recording quality may have a lot to do with these factors. I tested it while on the road in my car using my Palm Treo680 cell phone. I also got all the sounds from the car, but that may be a function of my Sony recorder, I don't know for sure.
when listening to the playback of my recordings, I did NOT notice the caller's voice lower than mine, as another reviewer pointed out. I wanted this as a solution to use for doing phone interviews for a podcast that I work on. I had my doubts, not realizing how simple this little thing works. It picked up the call from both ends remarkably well. However, you can tell it is a phone call and not a face to face discussion.
It also came with adaptor plugs (not shown in Amazon ad). Not a bad value for the cost. The mic came with several ear pieces, so fit was fine. Recording ability is better than I hoped, and is fine with the monoral digital recording device I use.
Highly recommended. The TP-7 was on a tray table at least a foot from my mouth and guitar. I'm a writer who uses the TP-7 for phone interviews. But the big surprise came when I plugged it into the mic jack of my laptop and sat down with my guitar and sang and played a song. Great for working with songwriting ideas. I've had the TP-7 for about a year and am ordering another when I finish this review. I thought that something was missing from the package when I opened it to find only a wire with a mini-plug on one end and an earpiece on the other. It picks up BOTH side of the conversation without any problem or loss.
It picked up everything. I still have the first one but at such a low price (17.11 WITH shipping) I wanted to have a backup in case I lost or damagesd the first one or if it were to be discontinued or if the price should go up. Olympus TP-7 Telephone Recording DeviceI don't know when I've bought any product that does what it says it does so completely, effortlessly and inexpensively. All you do is plug the plug into your recording device, put the earpiece in one ear and talk on the phone as you regularly would. You would not believe the guitar sound.
